Upon the launch of Aliki's first collection ‘Floral Luxe’ with us, we thought it would be nice for us all get to know her a little better!
So grab a coffee, tea or a champagne if you like ... and take ' 5 minutes with' Aliki Kapoor ... or you may know her as 'Aliki K'.
How did you start as a creative?
I have always been creative … Art was my go to at school, which then led me to further pursue my love for fashion and design, where I studied at
RMIT Melbourne earning a BA in Fashion Design. I then worked my way up as a Designer and Product Manager for brands like Witchery, Jeans West, Pacific Brands , Mossimo, Adidas.
I loved working with colours, fabrics and designing clothing and seasonal
ranges along with Brand logos, and visual merchandising. I was so lucky to have travelled to so many amazing countries & cities that inspired me in so many ways. I was also the one who always had a sketch book with me sketching ideas and design.
I finally decided to take the plunge and venture into creating original art after having my kids… and here we are!
What are your favourite colours you work with when creating your works ?
I love the rich colours of ink navy, blues and greens and also the softness
of pinks, nudes and earthy tones ... also highlights of magenta and lime and lilac.
Who are your ‘go to’ source(s) of inspiration ?
I look a lot on 'Pinterest' at floral images, natural forms of flowers and their
colours. I am also inspired by runway fashion and all the colours and fabrics and textures and am also inspired by sculpture. I find my mood also influences what I will paint.. some days I want flowing pretty and some days I want to create something a bit edgy and abstract. All my originals are very spontaneous and ever changing.
